Advance Offers Buyouts To Veteran Cleveland.com Staff
Staff at Cleveland’s largest news outlet could learn as soon as Monday who has accepted a round of buyouts offered for Cleveland.com staff and for Plain Dealer managers. The Northeast Ohio Newspaper Guild, which represents Plain Dealer staff, said on Twitter this week that the news outlet’s parent company, Advance Ohio, offered voluntary buyouts for staff with at least 15 years of experience.

Cleveland Police Plan to Cut Citizen Complaint Backlog in Half by End of the Year
Cleveland police have agreed to cut in half a backlog of citizen complaint cases by the end of the year. The monitor overseeing the city’s consent decree laid out a schedule of deadlines in a federal court filing last week. The monitoring team in June said that Cleveland is moving too slowly in finishing years-old investigations of complaints against officers.

Inlet Dance Heads to Stage at Jacob's Pillow
It's been close to a half-century since a Cleveland modern dance company has graced the stage of the prestigious Jacob's Pillow Dance Festival in Massachusetts. However, Inlet Dance Theater makes its 'pillow' debut next month, marking a major milestone for the 16-year-old company. Founding artistic director Bill Wade is excited for his company but he also understands the greater significance. "The opportunity to export dance that's made in Ohio to Jacob's Pillow is an honor, it's a privilege and we're taking it very seriously," Wade said.

Saxophonist Kenny Garrett came up in an era when jazz education took place much more on the bandstand than the classroom. The 56-year-old Detroit native honed his skills on the bandstand with the likes of Miles Davis, Freddie Hubbard, Art Blakey and Joe Henderson.
