  • The Ohio EPA is planning this week to issue new notices of violations against the company building the 700 mile natural gas Rover Pipeline across the state. From member station WKSU M.L. Schultze has more. EPA Director Craig Butler says more drilling fluid has been spilled into streams and wetlands along Rover’s diagonal path across Ohio. He says Energy Transfer Partners is supposed to be avoiding such spills by doing its horizontal drilling underground, instead of digging trenches to lay the pipeline.
  • The Greater Cleveland Regional Transit Authority’s budget for 2018 has an $18 million deficit, largely because of a reduction in payments from the State of Ohio. Another $10 million from the state will be lost after 2018. The transit authority is planning a service reduction in August, in addition to next year’s already-approved fare increase. Akshai Singh of Clevelanders for Public Transit says the county and RTA need to find a way to improve the system, then maybe its funding can be fixed.
  • Local agencies trying to save a crumbling stretch of land along the Cuyahoga River known as "Irishtown Bend" are now looking to the federal government for help. "If you've ever seen any pictures of it you can see it move several inches to several feet over time," said Grace Gallucci, Executive Director of Northeast Ohio Areawide Coordinating Agency (NOACA).
