  • There are burials across southern Lebanon, as Lebanese are finally able to recover the bodies of those hastily buried in mass graves during the fighting. The conflict between Israel and Hezbollah killed more than 1,200 Lebanese. In all, about 250 bodies are retrieved and reburied Friday, many of them in the southern port city of Tyre.
  • Astronaut Stephen Robinson pulled out two pieces of filler material that were protruding from Space Shuttle Discovery's belly. Robinson was tethered to a boom arm to reach the underside of the craft.
  • American and Afghan forces are on the offensive as Afghanistan's September election approaches. Afghan security forces say they killed a number of insurgents over the weekend. And the U.S military has been searching for insurgents along the border with Pakistan. Knight-Ridder correspondent Jonathan Landay says the Taliban is offering stiff resistance, despite the U.S. offensive.
