In the midst of escalating diplomatic tensions between the U.S. and Cuba, the city of Cleveland is trying to build business ties with the island nation. In Havana last Friday, representatives from the Cleveland-Cuyahoga County Port Authority signed a non-binding "memorandum of understanding" with the country's maritime authority aimed at laying the groundwork for potential future trade.

Cleveland City Council Wards 1 And 7 Headed For Recounts After Official Vote Totals
Cleveland City Council incumbents Terrell Pruitt and T.J. Dow have lost their seats in very close races slated for automatic recounts, according to official election results released today. After provisional and late-arriving absentee ballots were counted, Pruitt lost to Joe Jones by 8 votes, and Dow lost to Basheer Jones by 13. Children of color in Ohio fair far worse than their white peers when it comes to well-being and opportunity in the state. The findings come from the latest Kids Count: Race for Results report. The report from the non-partisan Annie E. Casey Foundation uses 12 indicators to compare childhood well-being across states. The indicators cover a range of outcomes in education, health, and economic areas, like 4th grade reading proficiency and teen pregnancy rates. In Ohio, African American children score far lower than their white, Asian and Latino peers.

Why The 'Trump Bump' Hasn't Happened
Friday's GDP report is expected to show a rebound from a weak first quarter. But the U.S. economy still isn't likely to sustain the 3 percent growth rate the Trump administration is promising.
The Jazz Philosopher: Ben Sidran
Jazz is filled with wonderful vocalists who sing songs of love, heartbreak and romance, but that’s not Ben Sidran’s bag. The 74-year-old belongs to a subset of jazz vocalists that includes the late Mose Allison as well as current performers Dave Frishberg and Bob Dorough. They might best be described as world-weary hipsters, whose songs are can be a mix of melancholy and mirth, filled with wry observations about life and more than an occasional pointed jab at sacred cows from all fields.

Trump's Tariff Should Be More "Targeted": Ohio Senators
Hours before President Trump is expected to unveil details about his proposed tariff on steel and aluminum imports, Ohio's senators are expressing their reservations. Speaking with reporters Tuesday, Senator Rob Portman said the President should narrow the scope of his proposal, which the President has said will involve a 25 percent tariff on all imported steel and a 10 percent tariff on imported aluminum. Portman argued for a more “surgical” approach, which would rely on tougher enforcement of existing trade laws.
