Arts and Culture leader Tom Schorgl Retiring from CPAC
Cleveland-area arts leader Tom Schorgl announced today he will retire from Community Partnership for Arts and Culture (CPAC) at the end of the year. Schorgl served as CPAC’s CEO and president for 20 years. “Cleveland/Cuyahoga County has become more and more aware of the value- the multiple values- of arts and culture,” Schorgl said. “That’s not always the case in other communities.” CPAC was established by the George Gund Foundation and Cleveland Foundation in 1997 to support greater Cleveland’s arts and culture sector. An Evening with Pat Metheny
When you’ve been recording as long and often as Pat Metheny, it would be easy to divide your music into various periods. But the multi-Grammy Award winning guitarist, who made this first of nearly 40 recordings as a band leader in 1976, doesn’t see his work that way.

Cleveland, Other Cities Challenge New State Wireless Law
Cities across Ohio are suing the state over new rules for installing wireless transmitters in public places, such as on top of streetlights. Cleveland has approved about 131 micro wireless facilities in public spaces in the past few years, a city lawyer said at a news conference Monday. They’re meant to improve wireless connections for mobile devices.

One group suggested police drop-in spaces in schools and churches. They also suggested reviving midnight basketball to give kids something to do.

Cleveland Responds After Resident Swaps Speed Limit Signs
Cleveland city hall says it will work to reduce the speed limit on a west side residential street after someone dressed like a city worker changed the signs without permission. Last weekend, someone wearing a hard hat and reflective lime green vest took down the 35 mph signs from utility poles on Franklin Boulevard. The person put up 25 mph signs in their place. Casandra Vasu snapped a photo of the person and posted it on Facebook. She said she was ecstatic.

Ohio Senators Want to Avoid Government Shutdown
Both of Ohio’s Senators want to meet a Friday deadline to avoid a partial government shutdown. Members of Congress are working on a short-term funding bill to keep the federal government open, but are still debating the inclusion of some controversial measures that likely won’t make the final resolution-- like fixes for insolvent workers’ pensions and the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals Program, or DACA. GOP leaders have, however, added 6 years of funding for the Children’s Health Insurance Program to the continuing resolution.
