Cuyahoga County Council To Hold Another Hearing On Major IT Project
Cuyahoga County Council holds another set of hearings this week on a $25 million plan to link the county’s computer systems. The Enterprise Resource Planning system is an expansive effort to tie together the work of all county departments into an integrated computer system. An October 2018 update to council said the ERP will change how the public works department issues work orders and how human resources operates.

Cleveland Clinic Moves Front Entrance To Prepare For Presidential Debate
The first 2020 presidential debate between President Donald Trump and challenger Joe Biden will be Sept. 29 on Case Western Reserve University and Cleveland Clinic’s shared Health Education Campus. Clinic officials are changing the way the public can access the hospital and closing some parking garages starting Sept. 22 through Oct. 1, in preparation for the event which is expected to bring national attention to Cleveland.
COVID, Cybercrime Provide Double Threat To Northeast Ohio Hospitals
Federal officials are warning all U.S. hospitals, including those in the Cleveland area, that they are the target of an “imminent and increased” cybercrime threat. University Hospital officials said they have been proactive and have already blocked some of the cybersecurity threats that the government is warning about. This means cybersecurity protections at the organization are working, said Robert Eardley, chief information officer at UH.

Cleveland Mail Carrier Charged With Delay, Destruction Of Mail
More than 330 pieces of mail were found in the vehicle of a Maple Heights mail carrier charged with delay or destruction of mail. That includes an absentee ballot application and several other election-related items, according to a press release from the United States Department of Justice.

Study: Warning Sign For Parents If Teens Post About Suicide On Social Media
Posting content related to suicide is an indicator that young people might be thinking about suicide, according to a recent study. Researchers anonymously surveyed 15,000 middle and high school students in the Stark County area, which recently experienced a rapid increase in youth suicides between August 2017 and March 2018.

Oberlin History Professor Gathers 'Historians on Hamilton'
Lin Manuel Miranda's Tony-winning smash, "Hamilton," lands in Playhouse Square this week. It's been billed as a revolutionary musical about the American Revolution, but is the critically-acclaimed show really revolutionary? Not according to Oberlin College history professor Renee Romano. In the new book she's co-edited, "Historians on Hamilton," opinions are varied on the musical's true reflection of American history.

Two School Levies Rejected By Voters In Special Election
Voters in two northern Ohio school districts rejected school levies in their Aug. 6 special elections. More than 78 percent of those who voted Tuesday in the Willoughby-Eastlake City School District opposed a levy that would have raised more than $8 million to cover state-level cuts that have put the district in the red. The measure failed with only 1,925 votes in favor of the levy and 6,988 against.

Plastic Bag Ban Goes Into Effect Across Cuyahoga County
Shoppers in Cuyahoga County will need to find an alternative to single-use plastic bags, as some stores have already removed the option. The county’s bag ban goes into effect this week. Though businesses won’t be fined for providing plastic bags for the first six months, many stores have already started pushing their customers toward alternatives.

All-Star Festivities Prompted Some New Uses For Old Downtown Spaces
The All-Star Game filled the coffers of a number of familiar downtown restaurants and hotels over the past week. But a number of entrepreneurs also set up temporary venues in some unexpected locations. For instance, an empty Euclid Avenue storefront found new life thanks to the Midsummer Classic. Marcie Gilmore stood behind a bar on some prime real estate at East Ninth and Euclid and explained.
