AG Candidate Dettelbach Proposes Strengthening Human Trafficking Penalties, Laws
Touting his record as U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Ohio, Democratic Attorney General candidate Steve Dettelbach introduced a plan today to strengthen human trafficking laws in Ohio. The proposal includes tougher penalties for businesses and officials who profit from sex trafficking, as well as a ban on those who solicit sex from children during high profile events like conventions. “Ohioans and people nationally, we need to do better at not being nosy neighbors, but being better neighbors,” said Dettelbach.

UPDATE: Overdose Deaths Surge in Cuyahoga County; Older Residents Hit Hard
There has been a surge in fatal overdoses in Cuyahoga County over five days, and the recent spate of deaths has hit those over 60 years old harder than usual, according to the medical examiner. On Thursday, the medical examiner's office increased the number of overdose deaths reported from 14 to 16 after further testing. Dr. Thomas Gilson called the deaths in the five days from August 2 through August 6 “a concerning trend.” Four of those deaths occurred in one 24-hour period between Monday and Tuesday.

Names of Professor, Playwright Removed from Baldwin Wallace Theaters After Misconduct Allegations
The legacies of a Baldwin Wallace University theater professor and a Northeast Ohio playwright are now in question following accusations of sexual misconduct. Baldwin Wallace announced Monday that it received what it called "credible information" about sexual misconduct allegations against William Allman and John Patrick, both now deceased. As such, a statement from the University, said the names of Allman and Patrick will be removed from campus theater buildings.

DeWine Announces New Wellness Initiative To Cut Healthcare Costs
Republican candidate for governor Mike DeWine and his running mate Jon Husted announced a new wellness initiative at a campaign event on Tuesday. The proposed plan would first roll out for all state employees, then eventually for people on Medicaid. "We have to prevent chronic healthcare problems before they take place," DeWine said. "Our goal is to get Ohio healthy, to prevent chronic disease from developing, and to help Ohioans take control of their health by meeting goals and benchmarks."

Millennial Theatre Project Targets Young Adults in Akron
After high school, Francine Parr wasn’t finding opportunities to participate in local theater. “I almost wanted to quit theater, actually, all in all,” she said. Instead of giving up, the 22-year-old worked with her father, Howard Parr, executive director of the Akron Civic Theatre, to create opportunities for herself and others with the Millennial Theatre Project. The group targets millennials to fill all roles for productions, and it aims to serve as a bridge between youth and adult theater.

Justice Dept Targets Lorain County Fentanyl Dealers
Stemming the tide of drug overdose deaths in Lorain County, and nine other counties across the country, is the focus of a new pilot program from the U.S. Attorney General’s office. Extra resources will be funneled to Lorain County for the next two years to try to crack down on people selling the deadly opioid fentanyl, said Justin Herdman, U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Ohio. According to the Centers for Disease Control, fentanyl is 50 to 100 times more potent than morphine and is driving the increase in overdose deaths.

Facing Cancer, Food Writer Joe Crea Shares Thanksgiving Gratitude
Besides stuffing ourselves silly, Thanksgiving is a time for gratitude, according to long-time Cleveland food writer Joe Crea. The former Plain Dealer food and restaurant editor has a lot to be thankful for this season, after more than two years of chemotherapy in his fight against cancer. Crea continues to write about local food and restaurants for Crain's Cleveland Business but admits after his chemo treatments his pallette is temporarily affected.
