Monitor Says Cleveland Lags in Revamping Investigations of Officers
A monitoring report says Cleveland police have made progress updating policies but face a backlog in investigations of complaints against officers. The six-month review was released Tuesday by the monitoring team overseeing the city’s consent decree with the Justice Department. The monitors wrote positively of the city’s new training guidelines for its use-of-force and crisis intervention policies. Both were submitted for a judge’s approval in recent weeks.

Healthcare Bill Should Preserve Coverage, American Medical Association Says
The president of the American Medical Association visited Cleveland today to launch a campaign lobbying Senate Republicans on healthcare. Joining the AMA in this effort are the AARP, the American Hospital Association and other health advocacy groups. They’ll also hold events in Nevada, Colorado and West Virginia. AMA president Dr. David Barbe said any healthcare plan should preserve the Affordable Care Act’s expansion of Medicaid and ensure that low and moderate-income patients can afford coverage.

MetroHealth Campus Transformation Project Moves Forward in spite of Federal Healthcare Uncertainty
Operating revenue at MetroHealth increased by $70 million dollars last year and a new Cleveland public high school for science and health opened inside the hospital system in the fall. But the focus of the annual meeting was the new Metro campus. The $855 million project will involve a new parking garage and building. On Eve of Trump's State of Union, Rally for Deported Youngstown Businessman
About 100 supporters of a Youngstown businessman who was deported to Jordan Monday rallied near Cleveland's West Side Market to protest President Trump's immigration policies. Though he was 6,000 miles away, 57-year-old Amer Adi addressed the crowd by way of his daughter’s cell phone, encouraging people to embrace the cause of young undocumented immigrants brought to the U.S. as children. “For the people there I say keep the fight going. This fight is for a lot of people out there that are living fear," said Adi.

Cleveland Schools Delay Charter Partnership Vote
The Cleveland Metropolitan School District Board of Education is postponing a vote on new charter school partners after receiving its largest ever number of applicants. Ten already operating charter schools applied to partner with CMSD. The CMSD Board of Education was scheduled to vote on those partnerships at a Tuesday meeting, but pushed the vote to February. Defined in the Cleveland Plan, a partnership allows charters to receive a portion of the district’s local levy dollars in addition to the funding they receive from the state.
