Nearly two dozen representatives of Ohio’s tea party have written a letter to President Donald Trump. The letter chides Trump for tweeting out a threat directed at the House Freedom Caucus after the GOP healthcare bill collapsed last week. From Ohio Public Radio station WKSU, M.L. Schultze has more. The letter calls on President Trump “to stand with our conservative heroes,” as personified by Ohio Congressman Jim Jordan and the other House Republicans who make up the Freedom Caucus.

In Cincinnati today a handful of parents and others were demonstrating outside the elementary school attended by an 8-year-old boy who killed himself days after he was knocked unconscious. The school district released video of the incident today. From member station WVXU, Bill Rinehart has more. Attorneys for the mother of an 8-year-old Cincinnati boy say he was bullied and knocked unconscious at school two days before he killed himself. The boy died at home in January.

Senator Rob Portman says he supports a reduction over time in federal funds for Medicaid expansion. The Cincinnati-area Republican is taking part in GOP negotiations over an Affordable Care Act replacement. He answered questions about Medicaid during a news conference at MetroHealth Medical Center in Cleveland. Portman said the expansion of Medicaid eligibility under the ACA has helped fund treatment for opioid addiction.

The new health care bill introduced in the US Senate Thursday can’t afford to lose more than two Republican votes in order to pass. No Democrats are expected to support it. Ohio Senator Rob Portman has not said whether he will join his party colleagues in voting for the bill. “If the final legislation is good for Ohio, I will support it. If not, I will oppose it.” That’s the statement issued by Senator Portman Thursday afternoon following the release of the Senate’s “Better Care Reconciliation Act.”

Cleveland’s police chief says the manhunt now reaches across the country for Steve Stephens, the suspect in a fatal shooting that was recorded and posted on Facebook. “Our federal partners, our local partners have reached out to their contacts all over the country, and this is what we would consider a national search,” Chief Calvin Williams said at a news conference Monday afternoon. Stephens worked as a vocational specialist for youth and young adults at Beech Brook, a children’s behavioral health center, according to the agency.

Cleveland city councilman Zack Reed says police are not doing enough to control dirt bike riders illegally using city streets. And he says that is leading to more brazen behavior from the riders. Police officials say a new policy is on the way. From Ohio Public Radio station WKSU, Kevin Niedermier reports. For safety reasons Cleveland police are not allowed to chase riders who driven recklessly, but now a growing number of them are aggressively harassing drivers. Reed says it’s time to crack down on this behavior.
