Coronavirus testing kits are set to arrive in Ohio in a few days and should be ready to test Ohioans for coronavirus, also called COVID-19, by next week. The current process is for hospitals to send potential coronavirus samples to the Ohio Department of Health (ODH), which then sends the samples to one of two out-of-state labs run by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). That process takes five to seven days.

The Summit County Jail is making preparations in the event of a coronavirus outbreak – but does not currently have anywhere to safely house infected or potentially infected inmates. One inmate was suspected of having the coronavirus and was sent to a local hospital, where a doctor declined a test after and examination, according to Bill Holland at the Summit County Sheriff’s Department, which is responsible for the jail. The inmate was sent back to the jail.

The Regional Transit Authority is one step closer to putting a measure on this fall's ballot that would help fund the county's ailing transit system. During a Tuesday meeting of the RTA Board, transit advocates from the group Clevelanders for Public Transit called on the agency to put a tax levy before voters this November.

A federal judge won’t grant news organizations access to drug sales data that’s part of the nationwide lawsuit over the opioid crisis. Judge Dan Polster had ordered the Drug Enforcement Administration to turn over records of opioid sales to local governments and the drug companies they’re suing. He approved a protective order limiting who could see the information. The Washington Post filed public records requests for the data with Cuyahoga and Summit Counties. HD Media, which owns newspapers in West Virginia, requested data from a county in that state.

Summit County Executive Ilene Shapiro is promising to take "immediate" action to improve conditions at the Summit County jail. The reforms were recommended by a commission following the death of an inmate last year.

Federal prosecutors say the former head of Cleveland’s demolition bureau accepted bribes from contractors in exchange for help obtaining work with the city. The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Ohio charged Rufus Taylor with one count of bribery and one count of extortion. Prosecutors allege that he accepted $8,000 from a contractor between 2013 and 2015 in exchange for helping the company get city demolition work. They say Taylor asked for another $12,000 after telling the contractor about an emergency job but never got the money.

For the past month, doctors volunteering their time on the weekends have been seeing patients at a new clinic inside the Islamic Center of Cleveland in Parma. The 7-10 physicians are all Muslim. Dr. Mansoor Ahmed is a sleep care doctor and runs the new clinic. He says he got the idea for the free clinic when he saw one that a friend opened in Jacksonville, Florida.
