A federal judge won’t grant news organizations access to drug sales data that’s part of the nationwide lawsuit over the opioid crisis. Judge Dan Polster had ordered the Drug Enforcement Administration to turn over records of opioid sales to local governments and the drug companies they’re suing. He approved a protective order limiting who could see the information. The Washington Post filed public records requests for the data with Cuyahoga and Summit Counties. HD Media, which owns newspapers in West Virginia, requested data from a county in that state.

Summit County Executive Ilene Shapiro is promising to take "immediate" action to improve conditions at the Summit County jail. The reforms were recommended by a commission following the death of an inmate last year.

Federal prosecutors say the former head of Cleveland’s demolition bureau accepted bribes from contractors in exchange for help obtaining work with the city. The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Ohio charged Rufus Taylor with one count of bribery and one count of extortion. Prosecutors allege that he accepted $8,000 from a contractor between 2013 and 2015 in exchange for helping the company get city demolition work. They say Taylor asked for another $12,000 after telling the contractor about an emergency job but never got the money.

For the past month, doctors volunteering their time on the weekends have been seeing patients at a new clinic inside the Islamic Center of Cleveland in Parma. The 7-10 physicians are all Muslim. Dr. Mansoor Ahmed is a sleep care doctor and runs the new clinic. He says he got the idea for the free clinic when he saw one that a friend opened in Jacksonville, Florida.

About 30 percent of jobs in the Cleveland metro area don’t require a bachelor’s degree and pay above the median wage, according to research from the Federal Reserve Banks of Cleveland and Philadelphia released last week. The Cleveland-Elyria metro area, along with some other Midwest cities like Toledo, have a higher share of these so-called “opportunity occupations” than the national average of about 22 percent.

It was a good night for school districts across Northeast Ohio. Voters supported 18 of 20 school levies on the ballot. The unofficial results show that whether it was a renewal or an additional levy, voters were 'for' their school district receiving the tax money. In Cuyahoga county levies for Brooklyn, Strongsville and Parma City Schools all passed.

For Tri-C JazzFest, change has proven to be good. For most of its 39 year history, JazzFest took place over a week to 10 days, and much of it was held on Tri-C’s Metro Campus with just a few performances in Playhouse Square.

Cuyahoga County Law Director Robert Triozzi has resigned, according to a news release from County Executive Armond Budish’s administration. Triozzi will go on to work in higher education with a focus on justice reform, the release says. The release does not specify where he will be working.
