  • The city of Cleveland and Cuyahoga County plan to help finance a new apartment and retail project in the Ohio City neighborhood. The plan is to build two apartment buildings on what’s now a pair of parking lots between West 28th and West 29th streets along Detroit Avenue. There are plans for a pharmacy, hardware store or other retail on the ground level. The buildings will house about 160 units total in what’s been dubbed the city’s Hingetown area.

The office of the U.S. Trade Representative this week released a list of the White House’s objectives for a new NAFTA. In a prepared statement, Democratic Sen. Sherrod Brown said he needs to see more details, but “the real test will be whether President Trump puts American workers over corporate profits once negotiations begin.”
  • According to the Ohio EPA, 90% of Ohio’s historic wetlands have been destroyed. New research from the University of Waterloo in Canada shows wetlands play a bigger role than we thought in protecting water from harmful fertilizer nutrients like phosphorus and nitrogen. Wetlands have several roles –they provide wildlife habitat, they hold water and reduce flooding, and they help filter nutrients in water running off the landscape.
  • Cleveland-based baroque orchestra Apollo's Fire won its first Grammy Award Sunday. The group shares the win for “Best Classical Solo Vocal Album” with tenor Karim Sulayman. Apollo's Fire Director Jeannette Sorrell almost could not make it to the ceremony in Los Angeles, but she sure is glad she did.
