Groundbreaking for Ohio's First Medical Marijuana Growing Facility
Work is underway for the first big growing facility for medical marijuana. The Cresco facility in Yellow Springs is one of a dozen that were awarded licenses two weeks ago. Illinois-based Cresco Labs’ new 50,000-square-foot, $7 million greenhouse will produce cannabis-based pharmaceutical products. Cresco’s high-tech facility will be built on nearly 10 acres of village-owned land near Antioch University. The company expects to create at least two dozen new jobs next year, and add more employees as the facility expands.

Cleveland Orchestra Celebrating 100 Years
On December 11, 1918, 54 musicians tuned-up their instruments in a downtown Cleveland concert hall and launched into history. The Cleveland Orchestra has ambitious plans for it its 100th birthday celebration this year. Chief Artistic Officer Mark Williams says it’s been a five-year process, developing special concerts and booking guest performers.

Cleveland Police Union Votes Down Proposed New Contract, President Says
The president of Cleveland’s rank-and-file police union says members voted down a proposed contract over the weekend. Cleveland Police Patrolmen’s Association president Steve Loomis said he isn’t sure why members rejected the agreement. “To be honest with you, I have no idea,” Loomis said. “I thought that this was the end result of a lot of good, hard frustrating work on the part of the city and the members of the negotiating committee.”

Ohio's U.S. Senators Split On Latest Healthcare Reform Bill
Ohio’s two U.S. senators agree premiums will go up if a bipartisan compromise on the Affordable Care Act doesn’t get through Congress. Other than that, though, they don’t agree on much, including whether the compromise should get through Congress. From Ohio Public Radio station, WKSU’s M.L. Schultze reports.

Survey Shows Spike in Price of Cleveland Rentals
Cleveland saw a sharp increase in rental prices in recent months. That's according to a recent survey by the apartment listing site Abodo.com, which looked at one-bedroom rentals in about 80 cities. The site found that Cleveland topped the list with the highest percentage increase in median rent last month at 6.5 percent. That marks the third consecutive month in which Cleveland led the pack.

Author Travels Over 100 Miles Along Maumee River
The Maumee River runs more than 100 miles before emptying into Lake Erie in Ohio. And it carries a lot of the farm runoff that triggers algae blooms. But a new book shows that there’s a lot more to the river. Ryan Schnurr spent a week walking and canoeing the length of the river last summer. He has turned that experience into a book called In the Watershed. It’s part memoir and part lesson on the Maumee’s place in history.

Mother of Tanisha Anderson Accuses Officials Of Cover-Up
By Phil de Olivera, WKSU The mother of Tanisha Anderson is accusing Cuyahoga County officials of trying to cover up police officers' role in her death in 2014 by blaming it on a heart condition. An autopsy of the county coronor originally ruled Tanisha Anderson's death a homicide. But the attorney general's office ordered another autopsy last year after it was discovered the case file was tainted with statements by the two officers involved in the incident.

Brown: Details of Trump Infrastructure Plan Could Derail Democrats' Support
U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-Ohio) has said infrastructure is one area where he and his fellow Democrats might find common ground with President Donald Trump and Republicans. But Brown said details about the president's infrastructure effort is giving him pause.

No Injuries After Well Pad Explosion In Eastern Ohio
by Julie Grant, Allegheny Front Natural gas and brine water continue to pour uncontrollably from a well pad in Belmont County, near Powhatan Point, after an explosion and fire at the site Thursday morning. No one was injured when workers lost control at a well pad owned by Exxon’s XTO Energy near the Ohio River. Nearby residents reported hearing the explosion, and the low rumbling sounds of the fire. About 100 were told to evacuate their homes.
