Pepper Pike Residents Speak Out Against Proposed Mixed-Use Development
Updated: 12:53 p.m., Thursday Dec. 19, 2019 Residents in Pepper Pike are pushing back against a proposed mixed-use development in their town, turning out in force at a Wednesday night city council meeting. The proposal from Axiom Development Group to redevelop the approximately 65-acre Beech Brook property between Lander Road and Chagrin Boulevard is still in its early stages, according to city officials, with no official blueprints for the site.

Postcards From The Pandemic: Shave And A Haircut, Two Shops
Many barbershops and salons are re-opening Friday — including Urban Kutz Barbershop's two locations in Cleveland. Owner Waverly Willis is nervous about getting back to work during the coronavirus pandemic, but he's also glad to be making money again. He has a busy weekend ahead with appointments booked from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. this Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
Pretentious Artists Persevere Through Pandemic
A longstanding Northeast Ohio art tradition carries on during the pandemic shutdown. Since 2005, the Pretentious Cleveland Portrait Artists have gathered in area taverns and studios to render volunteer models in paint, pencil and pastel. But in the past few weeks, the group has temporarily moved their weekly session online. A little after 7:30 p.m. last Friday, Roger Miller called the roll for the weekly gathering of the Pretentious Artists.

First Ohio COVID-19 Death Confirmed, Cases Rise To 169
Updated: 3:55 p.m., Friday, March 20, 2020 A Lucas County man has died of the coronavirus, the first in Ohio to lose his life to the global pandemic, Gov. Mike DeWine announced at a Friday afternoon news conference. The announcement comes as the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Ohio rises to 169, with 39 hospitalizations. DeWine described the man, Mark Wagoner Sr., as a well-liked and respected Toledo attorney who was prominent in the state Republican Party.
Appeals Court Rules Armed Ohio Teachers Require Extensive Training
Updated: 5:51 p.m., Tuesday, March 31, 2020 An appeals court decision in Butler County Monday throws Ohio's program for arming teachers into doubt. According to the decision in the lawsuit challenging Madison Township’s armed teacher policies, state law requires a school employee undergo the state’s peace officer training program or have experience working as a police officer to serve in a security role.

Cleveland Extends Civil Emergency Proclamation Through April
Updated: 5:05 p.m., Friday, April 3, 2020 Cleveland Mayor Frank Jackson has extended the city’s Proclamation of Civil Emergency through the end of April, and is already bracing for the possiblity that mass gatherings and special events may be put on hold for the summer. “We can expect to have social distancing and enforcement of that,” Jackson said at a Friday morning pandemic response briefing. “Anywhere that there is a potential mass gathering, we will not issue a permit for.”
