  • There are so many plans and programs in place to clean up the Great Lakes, it’s hard to keep track. In mid-October, environmentalists from across the region will meet to discuss their biggest challenges. Restoring wetlands, fish success stories, and the relationship between wildlife and microplastics will all be discussed at the conference hosted by the National Wildlife Federation’s Healing our Waters Coalition.
  • An associate of white nationalist Richard Spencer is suing the University of Cincinnati. From member station WVXU, Tana Weingartner reports. Spencer's attorney is asking for $2 million and a jury trial alleging UC is charging too much for Spencer's planned visit in March. According to the federal court filing, UC wants more than $10,000 for security fees and costs. The lawsuit says that infringes on Spencer's free speech rights and calls the criteria used to set the price unconstitutional.
  • An idea for a fashion show in vintage clothing 26 years ago launched a group dedicated to sharing the stories of strong women from the past. Women in History, a group of 10 local actresses, performs more than 100 characterizations of women.
  • Actor/playwright Chazz Palminteri was in Cleveland earlier this week to talk about turning his story, “A Bronx Tale,” into a musical. It might never have happened if he hadn’t lost a job. In the late 1980s, the then-struggling actor was moonlighting as a doorman at a club, when he refused to admit legendary agent Irving “Swifty” Lazar. That got Palminteri fired. So he used the time to write a semi-autobiographical play about growing up in the Bronx.
