The developers behind the Nexus natural gas pipeline want to begin construction by next Tuesday. In August, the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) approved the $2 billion pipeline that will run through 12 Ohio counties from Northeast Ohio to Michigan and Canada. The federal agency is in the process of reviewing the request.

Cleveland’s police chief says a change of mindset is needed for the department to fulfill its reform agreement with the Justice Department. Chief Calvin Williams spoke at a meeting of the National Black Prosecutors Association on Monday. Cuyahoga County brought in more than $2 million in last week’s auction of foreclosed properties. Up for bid at the forfeited property sale were houses, buildings and vacant land that the county took through foreclosure for unpaid property taxes. All parcels on the list failed to find buyers at two previous sheriff’s sales. Bids for houses could go as low as $500.

Canton City Council is expected to decide Monday night whether to go to voters in May to hike the city’s income tax by half a percent. Sixty percent of the $11.5 million the tax is expected to raise would be devoted to economic development in the five core areas identified in the city’s comprehensive plan two years ago. Mayor Tom Bernabei said that includes near northwest neighborhoods leading from downtown to the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
