Ohio Sen. Rob Portman will oppose an effort by some of his Republican colleagues to throw out President-elect Joe Biden’s electoral votes when Congress formalizes the presidential election results this week. Portman announced his decision in a statement Monday, saying he “cannot support allowing Congress to thwart the will of the voters” by overturning Biden’s win.

Election 2019: Mixed Results For Local School Levies
Cleveland-area schools will see mixed results to school tax levy proposals after Tuesday night’s elections. Cuyahoga County voters approved two of the three school tax levies on the ballot. Cuyahoga Community College’s proposal passed, with roughly 64 percent approval. It will increase Tri-C’s current levy to 23 cents per $100 valuation, lasting for the next 10 years. And with support from about 65 percent of those voting, Brooklyn city schools will continue with the current tax levy for five more years.

Cleveland Museum of Art Establishes Center to Conserve Chinese Art
Institutions that hold collections of Chinese art are facing a crisis. The number of Chinese painting conservators is rapidly shrinking. “Most of the conservators in the field came from China shortly after the Cultural Revolution, but also up until the late 1980s. They are about five to 10 years away from retirement, and there weren’t any junior conservators taking over their legacy,” said Per Knutas, chief conservator at the Cleveland Museum of Art.

UAW Lawsuit Says GM Lordstown Workers Could Replace Temps At Indiana Plant
The United Auto Workers labor union is suing General Motors over the use of temporary workers at a plant in Indiana, saying that laid-off members from Lordstown could do the jobs. The UAW filed the suit this week in federal court in Youngstown. The suit accuses the company of violating a labor agreement that allows laid-off employees with seniority to seek to relocate to other GM facilities. The complaint says the union agreed to GM’s hiring of temporary employees in Fort Wayne, Indiana, through August 2018 to help with the launch of a new pickup truck.
