The coalition includes faith group Greater Cleveland Congregations, the Cuyahoga County Progressive Caucus, Service Employees International Union Local 1199, Amalgamated Transit Union Local 268 and AFSCME Ohio Council 8.

  • Wednesday was the filing deadline for candidates in many of this year’s suburban primary elections in Cuyahoga County. East Cleveland may be the site of one of the more contested races this year. Five Democrats have filed petitions to challenge Mayor Brandon King in the September partisan primary. Another filed with the Green Party. Three people filed to run for mayor in Solon, and two in Bay Village. Both cities have open mayoral seats this time around.

  • Drummer Bob McKee, who was a key player in the Cleveland jazz scene for more than half of a century, passed away Wednesday at 90. McKee played in both the house band at the Theatrical Restaurant as well for the Mike Douglas Show, when the television program was produced in Cleveland in the early 1960s. McKee also taught his instrument to several generations of drummers. The McKee family will receive friends Sunday from 1:00-4:30 pm at Busch Funeral Home in Parma.
