Despite DOJ Review, Cleveland Still Supports Police Reforms
Cleveland’s agreement with the Justice Department to reform the city’s police force is one of 14 across the country U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions wants to review. Sessions says such consent decrees taint entire police departments because of a few bad officers. From Ohio Public Radio station WKSU, Kevin Niedermier reports Cleveland officials believe the 2015 agreement remains the best path to real reform.

Trump Deportation Policies Felt in Northeast Ohio, Immigration Advocates Say
Immigration advocates are protesting what they say is stepped-up deportation enforcement by the federal government. The advocacy group HOLA Ohio says several undocumented immigrants it represents in Northeast Ohio have been detained or given notice to leave the country. They previously had been considered a low deportation priority so long as they regularly checked in with authorities.

Summit County Magistrate Galonski Replaces State Rep. Johnson
Summit County Juvenile Court Magistrate Tavia Baxter Galonski has been picked to replace former State Representative Greta Johnson, who stepped down to become the county’s deputy law director. From Ohio Public Radio station WKSU, Kevin Niedermier reports. Ohio House Democrats selected Galonski from a list of eight applicants vying to finish Johnson’s term in the 35th district which runs through the end of next year. As a state representative, Galonski says she will rely on her background in working to keep families together.

Ohio's Lt. Governor Talks About Her Family And Addiction
A day after Ohio’s attorney general sued five drug makers for their alleged role in the state’s opioid crisis, Lieutenant Governor Mary Taylor is opening up about her own family’s struggles with addiction. From member station WOSU, Steve Brown reports. Taylor tells the Dayton Daily News both of her sons have struggled with opiate addiction, although she wouldn’t say if it was heroin or painkillers. She said both men, who are in their mid 20s, are doing well now, although one remains in drug treatment.

Uncertainty Over Refugee Policies Causes Belt Tightening At Local Catholic Charities Office
Refugee resettlement agencies around the nation are scrambling for money, in the wake of the executive order halting all refugee resettlement for four months. Locally, two workers have been laid off from Catholic Charities as the agency shifts to manage cuts to its government funding.

Survey Asks Lake County Residents' Access to Care
The survey asks about Lake residents’ access to care – Do they have a personal physician? Dental insurance? How would they rate the quality of their care? “Is it that individuals have the insurance or are they more concerned about utilizing it because of out of pocket costs?” asks Lake County Health Commissioner Ron Graham. “Or do they have a physician that’s unable to provide the services.”

Councilman Zack Reed Launches Bid for Cleveland Mayor
Cleveland City Councilman Zack Reed says he’ll challenge Mayor Frank Jackson in this year’s election, campaigning on safety and jobs. Reed has served on city council since 2001. He represents the southeast side of the city, and that’s where he announced his bid for mayor. “We need someone in that office with fresh ideas, creative ideas, innovative ideas to transform these depressed wards into a platform and into a harbor which will launch new jobs and new economies for the people of the city of Cleveland,” he said.
