Kent State University Names Todd Diacon As New President
The trustees of Kent State University have picked a new president. Todd Diacon will succeed Beverly Warren in leading the public university, according to a news release from the university. Kent State’s board found the new president from within the university’s own ranks. Diacon is currently KSU’s provost and executive vice president, where he oversees the school’s academic affairs, faculty, staff and administration.

'Gloria' Explores Costs of Competition at Work
Workplace drama takes center stage at Cleveland Public Theatre in its latest play, "Gloria." Young professionals vie for a break at a magazine while veteran employees keep their distance until a tragedy unfolds in the office. The play, written by Branden Jacobs-Jenkins, takes a critical look at personal ambition, and director Beth Wood was eager to bring it to Cleveland Public Theatre.

Ohio Senators Weigh In On CIA Director Nominee
President Trump’s nominee for CIA Director, Gina Haspel, answered questions from the Senate Intelligence Committee today. Democrat Sherrod Brown said he wants to see how Haspel will defend decisions and comments she’s made about her involvement with a post-9-11 interrogation program where the CIA waterboarded prisoners.
LatinUs Theater Company Debuts in Cleveland
A new theater group plans to introduce itself to the community in a big way on Saturday. For the past month, about a dozen members of the newly formed LatinUs Theater Company have been creating big heads, or "cabezudos," to wear while performing at summer festivals. “This is really traditional from Spain and all Latin America. At all summer festivals there’s always the big heads that characterize the people,” said LatinUs founder and executive director Monica Torres.
Anti-Semitic Comments Lead To Cleveland Clinic Resident’s Departure
The Cleveland Clinic confirmed Wednesday that a first-year resident who made anti-Semitic comments on social media was no longer working at the hospital. 27-year-old Lara Kollab worked at the Clinic from July to September 2018. The hospital said it recently became aware of Kollab’s 2012 tweet that said she would “purposely give all the yahood the wrong meds.” Yahood is the Arabic word for Jews.

Akron Reports Cyberattack Sought City Funds
The city of Akron says an attempted cyberattack sought to access city funds, but a city news release says investigators do not have evidence that personal information was compromised. A news release from Akron Mayor Dan Horrigan’s office says the city noticed suspicious activity on its network on Tuesday afternoon. The city’s IT office shut down its critical computer systems, including Akron’s online 311 service, as a precaution.

Lawsuit Accuses Police Commission Director Of Harassment, Creating Hostile Workplace
Three former employees of the Cleveland Community Police Commission have filed a lawsuit accusing the director of sexual harassment and creating a hostile work environment. The suit alleges that commission director Jason Goodrick frequently made sexual comments to employee Bethany Studenic, discussing her appearance and talking about his own sex life. It also accuses Goodrick of making demeaning comments to employee Rosemary Jovic about her mental health.
'Woody's Order' Is A Sister's Love Letter To Late Brother
You don't need to be a Bible expert to be familiar with the term "brother's keeper" from the Old Testament story of Cain and Abel. Ann Talman took that idea to heart when she was in her early 20's and her older brother was put into her care. At the time Talman was an aspiring Broadway actress, having starred opposite Elizabeth Taylor in the Broadway revival of "Little Foxes." But Talman put her acting career on hold in order to care for her brother Woody, a role she was destined to play, albeit a lot sooner than she'd ever anticipated.

Woodmere Village Votes To Remove 3 Council Members
Voters in Woodmere Village removed the council president and two other council members in a recall election Tuesday, according to unofficial tallies posted by the Cuyahoga County Board of Elections. Council President Jennifer Mitchell Earley lost her seat by 13 votes. Councilwomen Lisa Brockwell and Glenda Todd Miller lost by seven votes and four votes, respectively. The only council member to withstand Tuesday’s vote was Craig D. Wade, who held onto his seat by two votes.
