The draft of a new policy barring discrimination by Cleveland police officers is available for public review. The bias-free policing policy prohibits officers from stopping or arresting people based on their race, religion, sexual orientation or gender identity, among other attributes. But if police are looking for a suspect, they may still take those characteristics into account if they’re part of a credible and specific description. Officers are also not allowed to use derogatory language.

The Cleveland Cavaliers are recommitting to a deal to renovate Quicken Loans Arena after withdrawing from the plan last week. In a statement Wednesday afternoon, Cavs CEO Len Komoroski said the team will take up its side of the Q deal. The Cavs will pay principle and interest on half of a $140 million bond sale. The public will pay down the other half, plus reserves, with admission tax dollars and other revenue.

An unprecedented collaboration of three Northeast Ohio music ensembles performs Friday evening (September 8) to help victims of recent weather disasters in Texas and Florida. Over eighty local musicians were quickly assembled to support the relief effort. Students from the Oberlin Conservatory of Music started their rehearsals Wednesday night. Organizer Henry Peyrebrune says there was no problem in getting musicians to sign-on for the Friday night concert.

The new state rule for dentists limits prescribing opioids for acute pain to only 7 days, according to the Ohio Dental Board. It aims to reduce the risk of dental patients getting addicted to painkillers after oral surgery. Patients who suffer from chronic oral pain – pain that lasts longer than 3-6 months – are the exception and will still be able to receive standard opioid prescriptions.

With Northeast Ohio soon to be in the grip of subzero weather, doctors are warning that even short periods of time outside with exposed skin can lead to injury. University Hospitals Emergency Medicine physician Jeffrey Luk says frostbite can happen in a matter of minutes. His advice, if you have to go outside during this deep freeze, is to wear lots of layers. “A lot of people will just wear a hat and gloves, but the face will be exposed, so that’s another consideration especially how cold it's going to be.”
