Former President Donald Trump is planing a Northeast Ohio rally for next week in what his backers bill as the “first of many appearances in support of candidates and causes that further the MAGA agenda and accomplishments of President Trump’s administration.”

Trump will speak at the Lorain County Fairgrounds on Saturday, June 26, according a news release from his political action committee. He’ll use the appearance to support Max Miller, the former White House aide challenging Rep. Anthony Gonzalez.

Gonzalez is one of 10 House Republicans who voted to impeach Trump over the Jan. 6 riot at the U.S. Capitol. The Rocky River congressman has accused the former president of inciting the violence that day, as Congress voted to formalize Joe Biden’s victory over Trump in the 2020 election.

The county fairgrounds in Wellington are not in the 16th Congressional District that Gonzalez represents, but redistricting later this year will likely change the district’s makeup for the 2022 elections.

The former president won Ohio by eight points last year and maintains a hold on Republican Party politics in the state. GOP Senate candidates have sought to tie themselves to Trump, and the head of Trump's Ohio campaigns now leads the state Republican Party.

Trump campaigned in Cleveland last August with an appearance at Burke Lakefront Airport. President Biden visited Cuyahoga Community College in May to promote his economic and infrastructure plans.
