The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has implemented a temporary drone ban in parts of Columbus as part of special security ahead of the FIFA World Cup.

Ban areas include downtown Columbus and the Historic Crew Stadium, which is where the Ecuador National Football Team is headquartered for the tournament.

The ban area also includes Goodale Park and part of the Scioto Mile, which are common spaces for drone operators. The ban lasts from June 1 through June 26.

The FAA is implementing similar bans for cities hosting World Cup matches and official fan events. Columbus is not set to host any games for the tournament, but will host several fan events.

The Columbus Division of Police released a statement about the ban, saying pilots of small unmanned aircraft systems are encouraged to review the map of temporary restricted zones.

The FAA warns that ban violations could result in fines or criminal charges.
