The Lancaster City Schools' Board of Education has hired Steve Spangler as the district’s next superintendent.
Spangler will temporarily work as human resources director and assistant superintendent for the district at the start of the 2026-27 school year. He will officially take over as superintendent on Jan.1, 2027.
Spangler has worked for the last two years as the assistant superintendent for the Bloom-Carroll Local School District, overseeing educational services and various district operations, such as human resources, transportation, food service, Title IX and threat assessment.
Spangler has served in various leadership roles in the district. He previously served as director of secondary education from 2021 to 2024 and was an associate principal at Lancaster High School. He has also been a dean of students, special education supervisor, intervention specialist and coach. He has also served as special education director for Northern Local Schools.
Spangler has a Bachelor of Science in education, special education and teaching from Ohio University. He earned a Master of Science in educational leadership from the University of Dayton.
