Pleasant Township trustees say a cyber thief stole $191,000 from the township in an incident they found out about over the weekend.

Pleasant Township trustees say a cyber thief stole $191,000 in an incident officials say was discovered over the weekend.

Pleasant Township Trustee Nancy Hunter said Wednesday that a township official discovered the theft.

"Our fiscal officer was just checking the bank statements and she came across several withdrawals that she did not make and they did not look familiar," Hunter said.

Hunter said the money was stolen through nine separate transactions.

Hunter also said the bank and the Franklin County Sheriff's Office are investigating the theft.

She said the township is taking steps to prevent this from happening again.

After the investigation, Hunter said the township expects to recover the money from the bank or cyber insurance.
