The Franklin County Municipal Court is warning people about a new scam.

The court says people have been receiving texts with notices telling them they have an unpaid parking ticket they must pay or face a court date.

The fake notice contains a QR code for payment, and lists Anne Thompson as the Franklin County Municipal Court clerk. The court's real clerk is Lori Tyack.

Neither the court nor the clerk send text messages notifying people about fines. The court sends official notifications through the mail.

The court said people should not come to the courthouse unless they have scheduled hearings.

Those receiving the phony texts should report them to local law enforcement.

The court sent out an alert in February about a similar scam.
