Columbus City Council will vote Monday on whether or not to renovate the historic fire station located in Franklinton.

If the law passes, the fire station will be converted into office space for use by the Westside Neighborhood Pride Center.

The existing shell of the building, which is solid masonry, will be kept and repaired. Other changes to the building would include:

  • Replacement of the windows and doors to match the existing ones.
  • The addition of an elevator to the back of the building to provide access to the second floor.
  • The repair of the original wood staircase
  • The restoration and reinstalment of the original baseboard and trim

The station will have 9,450 square feet of office and conference space, including two community rooms, work stations for area liaisons and a 311 training center. Some of the office space is yet to be determined.

The project is estimated to cost $5.5 million, and would be funded by the city.

Construction is expected to begin later this month and finish in October of next year.
