Delaware City Attorney Natalia Harris says she resigned from her position because of what she called "workplace bullying and discriminatory conduct."
Harris was the city's first African-American city attorney and prosecutor. She submitted her resignation letter on Sept. 24.
Harris does not detail the bullying and discriminatory conduct claims in her letter.
In response, a letter from City Spokesman Lee Yoakum sent to WOSU on Monday said that Delaware takes allegations of misconduct seriously. The letter said that in this case, the city did not receive any complaints, reports or documentation to support Harris' claims before she resigned.
Harris lost the 2024 Democratic primary for Franklin County prosecutor to Shayla Favor, who later won in the general election.
Harris came to Delaware as city prosecutor in 2020. Before that, she led the city of Cincinnati's prosecution division and worked in the Montgomery County Prosecutor's Office.
In her letter, Harris lists a number of accomplishments, including continuing to prosecute cases during the 2020 pandemic.
Harris also said that she led the development of a foundation to establish a legal claims division in the office to help the city of Delaware collect taxes and other debts.
