The major party candidates for Ohio’s open U.S. Senate seat have weighed in on the FBI search of former President Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida.

Not long after Trump himself confirmed the raid on Monday, Democratic candidate Tim Ryan noted on Twitter that Ryan’s Republican opponent J.D. Vance will be campaigning on August 19 in Youngstown with Florida Gov. and possible Trump presidential rival Ron DeSantis, and Ryan added “Trouble in Mar-a-Lago, JD Vance?”

He attached a fundraising plea to that tweet.

Ninety minutes later, the Trump-endorsed Vance tweeted that the raid was “disgraceful and unprecedented” and added that “the people who’ve politicized the FBI in recent years will face investigation and prosecution.”

Vance also sent out texts and emails labeled “join the Trump strategy team” and urging donors to “rush your support to defend President Trump” – but the form for those texts and emails link to notes that contributions will benefit Vance.
