Former President Donald Trump speaks at the East Palestine Fire Department as he visits the area in the aftermath of the Norfolk Southern train derailment Feb. 3 in East Palestine, Ohio, Wednesday, Feb. 22, 2023.

As we saw in last week's election, Ohio firmly remains Trump Country. His endorsement of Bernie Moreno led to the Cleveland businessman's landslide victory over more establishment-type Republicans.

Former Republican state legislator Gene Krebs joins the show to go beyond the name-calling and get to the root of Trump's appeal in Ohio.

MAGA in Ohio

The numbers are clear. Here they are:

In 2016, Trump beat Hillary Clinton by about half a million votes (446,841) and eight percentage points.

In 2020, Trump beat Joe Biden by an 8-point margin and a half million votes.

In 2024, polls have Trump leading Joe Biden by at least 10 points.

Trump dominates in the rural areas. Democrats dominate in the urban areas, and people who live in both are baffled by how the other thinks.

Snollygoster of the week

The Republican National Committee is busily staffing up for the election campaign, interviewing candidates for the many open positions. The Washington Post reports that prospective employees are being asked if they believe the 2020 election was stolen.

A spokeswoman for the RNC did not deny the report, saying they want "experienced staff with meaningful views on how elections are won and lost and real experience-based opinions about what happens in the trenches."

A former RNC employee told the Post the question was open-ended, but doubted anyone who answered that the election was not stolen would get hired.
