In the home stretch of the 2022 campaign

NPR

It's now just five short weeks until election day and just a week or so before Ohioans can start casting early ballots. The ads are all over TV. Our mailboxes are filling with direct mail. Our inboxes are getting swamped with fundraising e-mails—some of them quite creative.

On this week's episode of Snollygoster, Ohio's politics podcast from WOSU, we tap into a last Friday's discussion on WOSU TV's Columbus on the Record. Hosts Mike Thompson is joined by a panel of journalists, Jessie Balmert, statehouse reporter for the USA Today Ohio Network and Andy Chow of statehouse reporter for Ohio Public Radio, and political pundits, Republican strategist Bob Clegg and Common Cause Ohio's Sam Gresham to discuss the big races and look at where Campaign 2022 stands.

Snollygoster of the week

Tim Ryan, the Democrat seeking the U.S. Senate seat, sent out a unique fundraising e-mail this week. It has pictures of him wiping his brow and standing in a doorway looking forlorn. The message reads, "Can I let you in on a secret? I'm getting damn tired of e-mailing you asking for money But don’t tell my digital fundraising director Emily I said that."

It's a pretty blunt tactic to shame supporters to relieve his burden of raising money.
