Storming The Capitol
One year ago today, President Trump was firing up his supporters at a rally. Some of those supporters later stormed the Capitol delaying the legal certification of the election of the President of the United States.
Today, President Biden denounced the violence and vowed to fight to make sure it does not happen again. He said Trump and his "web of lies" are attacking the legitimacy of the US electoral system.
Most Republicans running for US Senate in Ohio continue to repeat the lie that the election was stolen. JD Vance and Josh Mandel both say the election was stolen from Trump. Jane Timken and Bernie Moreno falsely claim there was widespread voter fraud. Only Matt Dolan clearly points out Trump’s lies about the 2020 election.
Campaign 2022
Ohioans will vote for members of Congress, a new US Senator, and the governor this year.
The candidates for governor are picking their running mates – their choice for lieutenant governor – and of course, Governor DeWine already has Jon Husted.
His Republican rivals have chosen their partners. Joe Blystone has picked Union County Marine veteran Jeremiah Workman. Last month Republican Jim Renacci picked Christian film producer Joe Knopp as his running mate.
The big news this week was on the Democratic side. Nan Whaley from Dayton and John Cranley from Cincinnati are both running and they named their running mates on the same day.
Whaley picked a running mate from Cleveland. Cranley picked one from Toledo. Whaley will run with Cuyahoga County Council member Cheryl Stephens and Cranely will go with State Senator Teresa Fedor as his running mate.
