The Dublin Board of Education has promoted Deputy Superintendent Dr. Jennifer Schwanke as the district's next Superintendent. The move followed Tuesday's resignation of Dr. John Marschhausen.
Marschhausen led Dublin City Schools since 2021 and was at the helm during the district's recent contentious redistricting process.
"As I step into this role, there are naturally questions regarding the recent school boundary decisions," said Schwanke at Tuesday's special board meeting. "To be transparent with our community and to provide clarity, we do not intend to reopen the redistricting process. Instead, my focus and the singular focus of the leadership team, will be on leading this district forward."
Schwanke added:
"On a personal note, when I first moved to Dublin 28 years ago to serve as a teacher, basketball coach, track coach, cross country coach, I fell in love with this community and I did not leave. It's a commitment that's visible in the relationships I have built with thousands of students, staff members, and community members."
Schwanke has worked with Dublin City Schools as a teacher, coach, and for the last five years as Deputy Superintendent.
In a Tuesday afternoon letter to families, Marschhausen does not give a reason for stepping down but writes, "it is now time for a new leader to bring the school community together and focus on the future."
Marschhausen notes that it was an "honor and privilege" to work with district students, families and staff through COVID-19, passing a bond issue and operating levy, building additions at two schools and opening Bishop Elementary.
"I step aside knowing that our core values will remain the heart of the district's culture. The Dublin community is my home, and I know the amazing work of preparing students for success will continue," Marschhausen writes.
Before leading Dublin schools, Marschhausen was the superintendent for the Hilliard City School District from 2013-2021.
