Police have arrested the driver of a semi officials say was responsible for a nine-vehicle crash on April 11 on I-71 near U.S. 36 in Delaware County that killed three people, including an infant.

Ohio State Highway Patrol said its preliminary investigation found a semi driver, who has been identified as 50-year-old Modou F. Ngom, of Columbus, failed to stop while approaching a traffic backup in a construction zone, which caused a collision involving several vehicles.

The crash took place just before 6:30 p.m. and shut down both sides of the interstate for several hours.

Authorities say a 37-year-old man, a 36-year-old woman and a 1-year-old child were killed in the crash. All three were traveling in the same car from Ashley, Ohio.

Three other people were treated at local hospitals for non-life-threatening injuries.

Ngom is charged with three counts of aggravated vehicular homicide and is being held at the Delaware County Jail on a $500,000 bond. His preliminary hearing is scheduled for April 21st.

Officials are continuing to investigate the crash.
