The Thurman Cafe in Columbus caught fire April 12, 2026. Columbus Division of Fire Authorities report no injuries, but significant damage to the restaurant.

The popular Thurman Cafe caught fire Sunday afternoon, causing significant damage, but no injuries, according to emergency responders.

Columbus Division of Fire officials had contained the blaze by 3 p.m. Patrons and neighbors surrounded the eatery on Thurman Avenue in German Village as firefighters put away equipment and officials on the ground and on the ladder truck deployed to the scene assessed the fire.

The restaurant is known for its huge burgers, which have been featured in numerous TV shows, including Man V. Food.

Lt. Nick Davis, a spokesperson with the Columbus fire division, told WOSU the first call came in about the fire just after 2 p.m. He said crews had to cut holes in the roof for ventilation and there was significant damage to the interior.

The front window was broken and hanging from the frame following the blaze.

Davis said the fire was contained to the building, but crews remain on scene to ensure there isn’t any remaining fire.

Davis said the origin and cause are still under investigation.
