AEP estimates around 1,800 customers in central Ohio are still without power after storms moved through the area on Friday and Monday morning.

Around 1,100 of those affected customers lost power during Friday’s storm.

“We saw a lot of big, healthy, beautiful trees, trees that don't typically cause outages or issues, breaking over or uprooting with the soft soil,” said Central Ohio AEP Operations Manager Dylan Brown. “We saw some significant damage to our poles and equipment just because of how heavy those trees were.”

Brown said the trees AEP workers have seen cause outages were further from power lines and not trees they would normally trim back. He added that some of the trees that fell were around 75 to 100 feet tall.

AEP hopes to restore power to all central Ohio customers by Monday night.
