Police at John Glenn Columbus International Airport arrested a man on Friday morning near the administrative area of a terminal construction site.

Airport officials said William Griffith, 40, was charged with unlawful possession of a dangerous weapon, four counts of possession of weapons under disability, one count of breaking and entering and one count of criminal trespass.

Construction personnel reported the man around 4:15 a.m. The man is not an employee or associated with the construction project.

Police found weapons and ammunition in two locations, including Griffith's nearby car. No additional weapons were found at the construction site.

Airport police notified the FBI and Transportation Security Administration and are continuing to investigate.

“Thanks to the swift action of our construction partners and their ‘see something, say something’ mentality, we were able to quickly address the situation,” Airport Police Chief Ronald Gray, director of Public Safety for the Columbus Regional Airport Authority, said in a statement. “This incident highlights the efficacy of our safety policies and procedures, prioritizing the safety and security of our airport community.”

The airport has remained open and operational.
