The Franklin County Prosecutor's Office said a grand jury this week declined to indict five Columbus police officers who shot and killed a man last year after he threatened people with an edged weapon.

Police were dispatched to Georgesville and Clime roads in southwest Columbus on June 10, 2024, after receiving calls that a man was threatening people with a knife.

Columbus police said officers found Noel Hernandez, 35, with what officials called an "edged weapon."

Officers explained they told Hernandez in English and Spanish to show them his hands.

Hernandez drove away, and stopped in the area of Sullivant Avenue and Industrial Mile Road.

Police said Hernandez got out of the car with the weapon and charged at officers who then shot him after they tried using a Taser to stop him.

The names of the officers involved in the shooting have not been released.
