Prosecutor seeking death penalty for man charged with killing Morrow County sheriff's deputy

Morrow County Prosecutor Andrew Wick will seek the death penalty against Brian Michael Wilson, the man charged in the fatal Memorial Day shooting of Sheriff's Deputy Daniel Sherrer.

On Friday, a grand jury Friday a 14-count indictment against Wilson, 53, including two counts of aggravated murder and one count of murder.

The prosecutor's office said those charges qualify Wilson for the death penalty.

Other charges include felonious assault, domestic violence and using weapons while intoxicated.

Sherrer, 31, was killed after responding to a domestic violence call north of Marengo. He was a four-year veteran of the department.

His funeral service was held Wednesday at Northmor High School in Morrow County.

Wilson is currently in jail being held on a $5 million bond.
