The Columbus Foundation has awarded the Community Shelter Board a $2 million grant, one of the largest philanthropic gifts ever donated to the organization.

The shelter board is the non-profit organization that works to prevent homelessness and support residents of Columbus and Franklin County facing housing insecurity. The board works alongside its 16 partner agencies.

The Columbus Foundation has contributed almost $7.5 million throughout the years to CSB.

But this $2 million grant is the largest single donation to date from the foundation and it “reflects their deep and continued commitment to housing stability in our region,” said Niel Jurist, the shelter board's chief communications and government affairs officer.

“They’ve been a generous partner and a catalyzer of our work for more than 30 years. Their investments have been especially impactful in times of crisis,” Jurist said.

A press release the Community Shelter Board issued Wednesday said: “This funding resource arrives at a pivotal moment to help stabilize the crisis response system and protect the most vulnerable members in the community.”

The board also emphasized the need for more support amid reductions in federal funding.
