Superintendent Bill Wise announced he would retire and will step down early as superintendent.

South-Western City Schools' Superintendent Bill Wise announced Monday he will resign from his position in August and take an advisory position with the district for one year until he retires in 2025.

Wise began working as the district's superintendent in 2007. He has been with the district since 2002 as both deputy superintendent and assistant superintendent of curriculum.

“It has been my privilege to serve as a caretaker of the district for the better part of two decades and I have been blessed to work with many talented staff, board, and community members,” Wise said in a statement.

Wise said he hopes he is able to leave the district better than when he arrived.

“South-Western City Schools is the biggest, small place you can find. We have a history of building partnerships that propel us forward, which I am confident will continue," Wise said.

The district said in a statement it will immediately begin the process of finding Wise's successor to lead the district, which has about 21,000 students.
