The city of Columbus has shut down Luxxe Lounge, an after-hours club on the city’s east side, after it was the scene of a fatal shooting last weekend.

Dante Gamble, 39, was shot when gunfire erupted in the parking lot as he was leaving the club, located at 1320 Beechwood Road, around 5:20 a.m. Sunday, according to police. Video from the scene showed some club patrons trying to help Gamble, but he died less than an hour later at Mount Carmel East Hospital.

The Columbus City Attorney’s Office said police have been called to Luxxe Lounge almost a dozen times since January 2023 for multiple incidents, including a fight, a person armed with a gun and two shootings. In December, a caller told police people outside the club were firing shots at the building.

The club had also been operating without a liquor license, according to city officials.

A temporary restraining order states the city previously shut down the property for several months in 2017, when the club was called Lounge 13. After it reopened, police continued to get complaints.

A preliminary hearing on the club’s status is set for Feb. 26 in Franklin County Municipal Court.
