Two 13-year-olds charged in connection to deadly Easton Town Center shooting

Movie theatres like the AMC at Easton Town Center will be allowed to reopen on June 10.

Columbus Police have said a 13-year-old boy is charged with murder in the fatal shooting of another teenager at the Easton Town Center Sunday evening. Another 13 -year-old boy is charged with obstruction of justice in the case.

The shooting victim, whose name has not yet been released, is also reportedly a teenager.

Columbus City Schools has confirmed the two boys charged in connection to the shooting are students in the district, although a spokeswoman would not what say school they attend.

Details on what led up to the shooting have not been released, but Columbus police believe the shooting was an "isolated incident." The shooting occurred around 6:14pm near the AMC movie theatre and Jeni's Ice Cream.

Columbus police said within a minute, an officer at the mall located the victim and began rendering aid.

Columbus Mayor Andrew Ginther spoke at a news conference after the shooting and said shootings like this will not destroy the sense of safety or community.

"We will not allow these shootings to diminish our sense of safety or change the way we live. We will not allow a small number of people to destroy our sense of community," he said.
