Former Mount Carmel Dr. William Husel will never again practice medicine in Ohio.
Husel surrendered his license last week, and on Wednesday the state medical board permanently revoked it.
This follows Husel's acquittal last month on 14 counts of murder. He had been accused of ordering excessive, fatal doses of painkillers for his patients. Husel's defense team argued that he was providing end-of-life comfort care.
Despite his acquittal, Husel still faced an administrative charge of failing to cooperate with a medical board investigation into the criminal allegations. The board revoked his license after Husel agreed he was guilty of the charge. Husel's attorney, Doug Graff, said the publicity surrounding the case would hinder Husel from practicing medicine again.
An attorney representing family members of eight patients said there are 10 pending medical malpractice lawsuits against Husel. A trial is set to start in one of the cases in late June.
