Central Ohio children might have been a bit upset that the season’s first substantial snowfall came on a day when schools were already closed.

On this Martin Luther King, Jr. Day holiday, people were out early in the morning shoveling sideways and driveways after about 3 inches of snow fell in most parts of Columbus. There was significantly more snowfall in areas south and southeast of the metro area.

Early Monday morning Athens and Hocking Counties were at a Level Three emergency, the highest possible rating where all roads are closed to everyone except emergency personnel.

In Central Ohio, nearly all counties were listed at a Level One or Level Two snow emergency. Franklin County was listed as Level Two.

Snow began to taper off around 5 a.m. Monday.
