The city of Phoenix is looking to the Buckeye State for new recruits to fill the ranks of its understaffed police force.

The Phoenix Police Department is holding written exams in Cleveland on November 6, and Columbus on November 7.

A social media post by the department advertises a $7,500 signing bonus and warm Arizona weather.

Sgt. James Fuqua with the Columbus Division of Police said CPD needs to recruit from within Ohio.

"And I believe we do that because we have very competitive wages. We have very competitive salaries and benefits packages that would attract a lot of young people to this job," Fuqua said.

The move by Phoenix comes at a time when CPD is facing its own shortage of about 115 officers.
