Columbus City Council votes Monday on an ordinance that proclaims 2021 a dud when it comes to Red, White and Boom.

The massive fireworks show was also canceled in 2020. The ordinance before council on Monday states “the event was positioned to return and celebrate its 40th anniversary in 2021, but lingering public health concerns forced a delay, and after careful consideration the board of directors determined the best course of action was to postpone until 2022.”

The decision to postpone the 2021 fireworks display was first announced May 20.

The ordinance up for Monday vote would also send the non-profit Red, White and BOOM!, Inc., which organizes the event, $150,000 to help keep them solvent after two years of no festivities.

Red, White and Boom is considered the largest Independence Day celebration in the Midwest.
