2020 Election Results: Donald Trump Wins Ohio

WOSU
President Donald Trump has won the state of Ohio.

Ohio has once again given its 18 electoral votes to Donald Trump for president. Even in the early hours of Wednesday morning, it's still too soon to tell if the state will prove a bellwether for the rest of the country. Below, watch live results for the presidential race, courtesy of the Associated Press.

WOSU is bringing you comprehensive coverage of the 2020 election, in Ohio and around the country. Find the rest of our election coverage below:

Trump topped the Republican ballot, seeking another four years in office along with Vice President Mike Pence. In 2016, he handily won Ohio by 8 points over then-nominee Hillary Clinton – with especially strong results in historically-Democratic strongholds in Northeast Ohio – and results currently have him up by a similar margin on Election Night.
The coronavirus pandemic has certainly reshaped the presidential race this year. Even as COVID-19 cases surged in Ohio, Trump, Pence and their campaign surrogates held a number of in-person rallies across the state – flouting the state's restrictions on mass gatherings and face masks.

Biden and Sen. Kamala Harris (D-Calif.) both made several campaign stops here, most recently a drive-in rally on Monday afternoon. But in general, COVID-19 has led Democrats to largely avoid the large events traditionally embraced by presidential campaigns.

Meanwhile, Biden spent millions on advertising across the Buckeye State and occasionally came close to Trump's polling numbers – and at times passing him – in Ohio.

Another thing to watch: Ohio may see near-record voter turnout this year. Election boards across the state have logged unprecedented levels of absentee and early voting over the last four weeks, with millions of people sending their ballots through the mail or lining up at polling places.
