Gahanna-Jefferson teachers picket on Tuesday morning, October 13, 2020.

A teachers' strike in Gahanna is over after the union and the school board on Sunday approved a new contract.

The Gahanna-Jefferson Teachers Association and district administrators had been at odds over how to safely and fairly teach students using a hybrid learning model during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. The contract is for one year. Details of the agreement were not immediately available.

Online classes continue Monday, with a hybrid model of students splitting time between virtual and in-person classes starting next week.

Gahanna teachers voted to strikeOctober 11 and started picketing a day later after contract talks broke down.

The teachers' contract expired June 30, but Betsy Baker, spokeswoman for the Gahanna-Jefferson Education Association, says negotiations started back in March.

The district had sought court action to block the strike, but a judge threw out that request.
