A Columbus Police officer was arrested Thursday on allegations of child pornography.

Charges were filed against officer Raymond Rose for illegal use of a minor in nudity-oriented material, and pandering obscenity involving a minor. According to the city the investigation began after a family member of the alleged victim contacted the Internal Affairs Bureau.

Rose was placed on paid administrative leave during the investigation, meaning he will have no arrest powers and no firearm.

“When criminal activity is discovered, our duty is to investigate and pursue the appropriate action based on the evidence," said Columbus Police Chief Tom Quinlan in a written statement. "The fact that it involves one of our own does not change that.”

The Franklin County Sheriff's Office is handling the investigation. They declined to comment further.

Last year, former Columbus Police Sgt. Dean Worthington was sentenced to 90 days in jail, placed on probation for five years and fined $5,000 for having child pornography on his personal cellphone. Worthington, a 22-year veteran of the department, resigned in October 2018 and pleaded guilty the next month. He will have to register as a sex offender for the next 24 years.
